Before I left, I was politely informed that I would be going to the exhibit "Venise et l'Orient" at the Institut du Monde Arabe (Arab World Institute) by my advisor at Wesleyan (who works in the departments of archaeology and art history -- double punch). Who am I to argue? I went with another girl from the program (art history major) who, I'm sure, understood way more about the exhibit than I did. Oh well.
The exhibit was really well done, but crowded -- I suppose because it's ending on February 18th, but seriously. I've never seen a museum like that; I had to stand in lines and snake around people and peer over shoulders to see anything. Never let it be said that the French are not devoted to learning. Good grief.
In other news, Skye and I discovered a bath towel at our host family's house that appears to be some kind of slave trade souvenir.
African woman, sailboat and chain ... Somebody didn't think too hard about their graphic design before they put it on a towel.
